Default Thermostat change

I am looking for a little bit of advice. I changed my thermostat last weekend. I tightened the housing bolts and filled the system. I noticed a small leak from the housing. I them tighted the bolts some more. It seemed to be taken care of. But later I was thinking about it an went back out to tighten with the tq wrench to the 11bls. I am sure I went overboard and broke off one of the bolts. After alot of issues I got it out. My question is should I add any gasket material when I put it back together?
Thanks

I just did mine as well with no issues. Did you use the stock rubber gasket from the old thermo with the new thermo? I heard using aftermarket gaskets that come with the new thermos can give you leaks.

I would say a light coating of RV sealant on the housing would be ok as a precaution to stopping any leaks. Myself I've had mine off a couple of times, did nothing but lube the rubber O ring with a little grease to ensure a good seal.

Make sure the gasket didn't roll when you installed it.
