SCS: More powerful alternator?
I've been having the service charging system error code for quite some time now and it may be due to the underdrive pulley underdriving the alternator. This is one of many conclusions, but seems possible because the battery charges just fine when I give the engine a 200 RPM rev and I don't get the error message when driving.
There is an overdrive pully availible for the alternator, but it seems to be half the size and I'm concerned about overdriving the alternator to the point that it fails.
Is there an aftermarket generator availible that will charge at lower RPMs?

Look in the yellow pages for a shop that rebuilds altenators, I'm sure they can do something custom for you....at a cost of course.

No rebuilds, factory part only. About $550 unless you get a jobber discount, then about $285. Not cheap.

I'm pretty sure mine works fine, it just doesnt spin fast enough at idle. I'll just go for the pulley.

Which pulley did you use? I am thinking about changing mine! Did you install it your self?
Thanks

Why not raise your idle 50 - 100 rpm?

I suppose I could do that to see if it actually works.
