Have about 30,000 miles on 2006 Vette. Started noticing gear shifter chatter problem only recently and only after car has been on the road for a while and has wammed up. Took the car to the dealer to get corrected. Showed me a service bulletin that said shifter should be replaced. Was replaced but still have chatter problem. Been two days since replaced. Still have chatter problem. Before the fix, noticed problem in all gears. Now seems to occur even when car is cold and at higher revs when in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
I've got some options - just the bushings or think about doing the entire shifter box. At any rate I'm going to tackle this in the fall..
Update - April 2014. I did the bushings last fall and nothing got better - in fact worse.
Doubtful if the problem will be corrected even with an entire new shifter box ??
Is the problem with holding the linkages firm, or is root cause something going on in the transmission? I'm hesitant to get a new shifter box and still have this problem.
If anyone can explain or provide testimonial on what worked for them - I'm listening.

George at MGW says that the stock shifter boxes are, on average, good for about 30k miles. While the bushings on the mount points willl wear out, so will the bushings where the rod slides in the box itself. So, if you're at >= 30k miles, it could be that replacing just the mount bushings is doing just half of the job. I'd say do yourself right and replace the box.
