Default Forgotten Video from Famosa Drags!!!

For some reason I forgot I had this last video from Famosa Raceway last week. I must be getting old...

Here ya go!

Here's a bonus video from today with my Supercharged C5 in the canyons. I went out for a nice Cruise with a little JOHNNY CASH in the backround!

nice vid

few questions, it seems to me you started wheel hopping in 1st right before you went in to 2nd? true? also with the 4.10, it seems the last 1/3 of the run you were in 4th? true? cause with 3:42s you'd go into 4th right before you crossing the traps, and if thats the case, 4.10 at the track requires a lot more ummm "precision driving"

I only got a few runs that day, and this was the only run that I had the camera mounted in the car. I did not get a very good burnout on this run, and did get some early wheelhop.

It does seem that I was in forth quite a while. With the 410s, I'm using most of forth to get across the line.

I picked up at least 2 tenths, and 2 MPH from the difference in DA between Fontana and Famosa. I also picked up at least a tenth or more from the DRs. This leaves nothing for the gears.

We believe this is due to the fact that the 08 Z51 trans mated with 410s, puts you above the power band. I miss peak TQ on every shift except 1st.

Here is my dyno sheet showing peak TQ at 4600 RPM. I only drop back to about 5000 RPM on shifts, hence missing peak tq. HP is flatlining on the top, and TQ is falling off...

Here is the speedo shot with 410s showing where RPM hits.

373s will drop me back to 4573 RPM on shifts, right before peak TQ. We believe this is the optimum gear for a Bolt on only LS3 Z51. It will also be more comfortable for highway cruising.

While this will go against many opinion's on the CF, it is based on my own experience and testing. I plan on having the cryoed/shot peened373s with the already upgraded shaft, in by Friday, and after a short breakin time, will be testing them soon!!!

4.10 are too steep for the Z-51 set-up, after 100mph, I get the feeling they are eating up the HORSEPOWER........140mph @ 5,500rpm in 5th , yes there is 6th .........last time I was @ 5,500 in 5th, I was doing 183 with more to go (closed road course)

My situation is a little bit diff, my car is @ ECS now getting a cam-only package, hopefully more HP will work well with the 4.10...... if everything turns out scheduled to my plans, I'll be at ETown next Sunday to do some practice runs

As some have mentioned in your other thread, the 18in DR you used might have made your gearing ratio even steeper!?

I don't see you being out "RPM range" an issue, you might just need to shift quicker, the RPM needle w/ 4.10's sure sweeps really fast

With a cam, you can now move the "power band" up. This should work for you. I already have a radical Vette, with my supercharged C5. My plans are to keep this 08 a reliable bolt on only.

The DRs do make my gears a little bit steeper, but the 410s take me too much out of the power band to be effective in my book. If I shift too soon, I'll run out of gear in forth before I cross the line...

Your car should be a beast with the cam!!!

I've never heard of or myself geared a car for torque in place of the horsepower curve, but am hoping for you that it works. Thanks for sharing the info and all of the videos! Good luck!

TQ pulls you down the track!!! You do want to optimize both, and the 373 with the new Z51 trans, will do just that!!!

Thanks for the props on the videos Guys!!!

I've been meaning to ask you, in your video, your car's temp was 158 deg.....

that might be an issue, just like when the temps dropped here in NE, and it screwed up my tune, it was caused by me installing a cheaper/shorter TStat

That run was made after the car sat for quite a while, I've got the proper stat in the car.

The car ran the same all day, it was just a question of my launches that made the difference in times. The rest of my shifts were very consistant, and my MPH was just below 122 on most runs.
Thanks

JB

I am curious to know what your LS3 would do with the 3.73's..Nice vids..

With the my 4.10's and the cam on my LS2 (228-232 575/588 113 lSA) peak RWHP at 6700rpm feels awesome, car dynoed corrected 417rwhp 395rwtq. I don't see how changing to 3.73's would be quicker for my set up in the quarter mile..Hence my interest in your experiment..
