Any smaller and you don't have the surface area to condense the vapors efficiently. Smaller cans will collect the oil mist created by the crank/cam/rockers, etc. flinging oil to a mist...which is most of the oil getting into the intake, but there is also a good amount of other gases & vapors that the larger can effectivley allows these vapors to cool & condense on the inside surface & drain to the bottom of the can for draining later. The smaller cans are effective in capturing most of the mist, but are to small to allow the cooling needed to collect all.
