dealers / tire shops use impact wrenches too.

It is just a lug nut, an aluminum beauty covered piece of steel.
Yea but if you use an impact a bunch of times on those stock lugs, they won't last long even with the fancy sockets....mine are all trashed. But I understand GM's basis for using them, those plastic beauty covers they used on C5's were expensive when you figured out how many they needed to buy!

I can confirm my Harbor Freight Electric Impact Wrench with nylon
protected socket trashed my oem lugs on the first try. I returned it
and now do it all manually via breaker bar, speed handle and torque
wrench. I can also confirm you can now say " I told you so" :o

I would never do that. But next time I post this information perhaps you'll chime in to "second that motion".

OEM lug nuts? No way - get a set of GOOD lug nuts, or a set of 20 matching locks.

I use a pneumatic impact wrench all the time, with my 20 Gorilla locks, but I use it with a 95 lb.-ft torque stick, followed by a torque wrench set to 100 lb.-ft for the final. The torque stick does leave them about 1/16 of a turn loose for the final torque wrench snug-up.

To prove a point for a lawsuit, I once torqued the lug nuts on one rear wheel of my diesel pickup truck to just 40 lb.-ft, marked the orientation for frequent checking, then drove it for 4000 miles with nary a RCH (or is that an RCH) of movement. Factor of safety .
