I recently installed a SIR-GM1 into my 05 w/ 6 disc changer radio without navigation. I have tried both the supplied T-harness and the factory xm radio harness in the rear of the vehicle. I am pressing the BAND button on the radio to cycle through available inputs, still nothing. Am I doing anything wrong?
Did your car come with XM originally? I'm not sure if the SIR-GM1 works on non-XM 05's. If you did have XM, then you will still see "XM1" and "XM2" displayed on the head unit as you toggle through the bands, but you will be listening to Sirius.
My car did not come with XM, but does have the connection in the trunk.....
I think that's just because GM wanted to save money by using the same wire harness for every car.
If your car did not come with XM, then I think your head unit is not programmed to recognize the incoming signal. I'm not 100% sure of this - maybe one of the audio gurus on the board can back up my story...
Makes sense. Has anyone had any luck using the supplied T-harness to plug into the back of the radio as instructed by the Sirius installation manual? I tried it but could not get it to work either.
I can't speak to adding a Sirius radio to a '05 but I did add an XM module to my '05. The one thing you haven't mentioned is having the Body Control Module (BCM) reprogrammed to inform it that the additional radio component is present. Without this, the radio will not ever see the two XM bands where your Sirius receiver is. Your dealer, or anyone else with a Tech II device, can do this for you.
