i will receive my 2008 convertible soon with the new Ls3at 430 hp. I would like to gain the maximum HP without loosing the GM warranty. What can i do? i read a bit and i found that the air intake HALLTECH LS3 KILLER BEE will give me 15 Hp. Any other idea. This is my first vette . Thanks
You're probably limited at an intake and perhaps an exhaust to stay under warranty - thats about it. Some dealers may even try to give you sh*t just for those though, so be careful. Modding and Warranties DO NOT go together. You pay to play
Congratulations on your Vette! As far as the warranty goes, there have been many posts on that subject, you might try a search. I can tell you that in the end, it all depends on the dealer whether or not they deny a claim. Theoretically, if the mod has nothing to do with the warranty item there should be no problem. There is always some risk regarding warranty claims if the car has been modded.

Doubtful on the 15 RHWP claim. I got 15 from a Calloway CAI & Borla CAT Back. Be skeptical of MFG's claims. Saw one from Granitelli for 30 RHWP for wires - a ludicrous claim unless your wires are broken.
As far as voiding the warrantee, as long as you don’t do engine internal MODs you will be OK. Bolt-ons like CAI, Headers, CATBACK, and FAST intake should get you 50 RHWP.
I field this one all the time - Aftermarket Parts and Warranties
A dealer CAN NOT tell you that installing aftermarket parts will void your warranty - if a service writter tries to tell you this ask them to see it in writting where GM specifically states that installing an aftermarket part voids the warranty on your car.....see what he says
While you are at it do a google search on the Magnusson Moss ACT and see what all comes up, that act specifically protects you guys from dealing with this sort of thing
Dealerships want you to belive that installing aftermarket parts will void factory warranties - reason being is the mechanics only get a typical flat rate while doing the work and the dealership makes no money so they look to this as a scape goat, and figure most people/enthusists are not smart enough to know about this act. Hell most service writters dont know of this act specifically either which is like a double edged sword in some cases.
Ive read on this forum in this section specifically where guys have had various issues with their C6 - one of them as I recall was a guy that was getting noise in the rear end of his vette from the drive train and took it to one dealer who noticed he had an aftermarket exhaust system and they told him his entires vehicle warratny was void because of it. I think he ended up going to a differnet dealer and having it the issue fixed.
If you guys have any questions shoot me a PM - like I said I work with this issues and so do the other people here in house at JBA, im sure some of the other aftermarket comopanies out there have the same issues as we do.
while it is external (not an internal modification to an engine) I can see where a FAST and headers would have some effect on warranty. granted, it'd be related to some effect either or both had on some part failing to be justified, but these are not minor mods. an air cleaner, a catback is minor, to me.
if i put a VARARAM or a callaway , i will have to cut some part then i will loose my warranty. I already order the option exhaust with 6 more HP.
Well, you can install that killer thing but I think you're wasting your money. It looks cool. That's about it. You're still pulling hot air from inside the engine compartment.
In the real world it all depends on how well you know your service writer. Even when my LS2 was making 461rwhp modded he still did warranty work on my car. Now if you don't know anyone very well which is usually the case then you are limited as to what you can mod.
Legally only a cat back exhaust system is within the limits of the warranty. again it all depends...
if your really worried about it ask the dealer that would be handeling any warranty work, see what their shop boss says. and if its a maybe, throw them installing the part into the mix. if they will install it without having you sign something that says, this voids your warranty than no reason they should ever dissapprove a claim, especially since their labor is the only other thing to come into question. either way good luck on the new toy, and congrats
