HELP - I ran into a note that I wanted to try to confirm. Is the stock pad on a Z51 brake package ceramic? I didn't think so, myself... but? Thanks in advance for any input!
nope. Z51 are a performance semi-metallic pad -vs- the ceramic. Completely different part numbers. Z51 pads shed alot of dust and tend to squeak at times. Ceramics produce very little dust but "may" have somewhat diminished performance than the Z51 pads.

so you would not recommend someone replacing with the ceramic's then...or would it be barely noticable...thanks

I replaced my stock Z51 pads on my '07 and can not tell the difference in spirited public road driving (have not tracked the car, so I will not comment on that). The ceramics are quiet with almost no dust ... suit me fine.
I replaced mine and got rid of the noise and dust. Much happier with daily driving, but did not hold up at the track, so I just swap pads when I go to the track. Very easy to do, only takes about 1/2 hour.
For those of you that have replaced the Z51 pads with ceramics, did you get your drilled rotors resurfaced at the same time or did you just replace the pads?

I replaced my stock Z51 pads with ceramics - about 15,000 miles ago - at just about 15,000 miles. I did not resurface the rotors, since the rotors were still extremely smooth. I'm now at 31,000, and no problems since; and best of all no dust or squeal! Well worth the money.
