Default Installed Z06 Mufflers

I picked up a set of barely used mufflers on the forum and a mild-to-wild from nakidparts. I had the mufflers installed today at a local muffler shop. The install went pretty easy. We kept the 3" pipes on the mufflers and fabricated a 2.5 x 3 reducer to connect them to my ARH x-pipe. The install took a little over an hour and he charged me a whopping $70. I had installed the mild-to-wild myself which took a total of about 15 min. Sorry I have no way to record the sound but it is awesome with the other mods I've done to this car.

This is not intended as a "got ya" question but rather a clarification on a point i have been wondering about. I thought I had read, in the past, that the Z06 exhaust system was 3" but necked down to 2.5" at the mufflers. If I read your post correctly, you're saying that the Z06 muffler is 3" all the way through and that you had to reduce the input from 3" to 2.5" to adapt to your 2.5" over the axle exhaust pipe.
Could you expand??

The stock pipes reduce just before entering the muffler. I did not want to hack the muffler pipes so we kept the stock pipes and fabricated a reducer to go between the muffler pipe end and the x-pipe.

The Z06 exhaust system is 3 inches everywhere EXCEPT for about 1 inch (yes, 1 inch!) before it enters the muffler, where it necks down to 2.5 inches.

Why? The world may never know...

I can feel a little extra power over the GM performance exhaust I had previously.

GM claims the NPP exhaust provides 6 more horsepower. I am assuming that is when the valve is open. Any info on that would be appreciated.
