I have an '08 2LT as I have had HUD on a C5 and never used. I do find I would like to have the steering wheel a little closer. Is it possible mechanically to add the telescoping funcion? Any aftermarket hub extenders available? Any suggestions would be welcome.
Probably cost you less headache and wallet ache to trade your car in for a 3LT car. They do in fact use two different harnesses between the two option packages.
I had an Acura NSX and one of the frequent mods was aftermarket steering wheel, and hub fitments. Anything like that available for Corvettes. I am willing (foolishly?) to forego the hair bag.
EmilT, I had the same question a year ago when I got my 07. I spent a bit of time jammed in the driver's footwell trying to figure out what I can do to get the steering wheel closer to me. I looked through the tech manual to see the differences between the telescoping and non-telescoping steering columns, and was not able to make a clear determination.
I'm going to see if I can get my hand on a used telescoping steering column and see how I can retro fit it. I wouldn't need the electrical connection, as I would make it so I can manually adjust the screw mechanism that telescopes the column, then just leave it.
Maybe we can just modify the non-telescoping column. The only reason I don't like the spacer idea, even with the stock airbag, is that it puts the turn signal stalk out of easy reach. I noticed this on a Miata that I added a hub extender and aftermarket steering wheel onto.
Anyone else have any useful knowledge of the telescoping or non-telescoping columns?
