Another muffle question.
GM has a cat back exhaust system you can order from a dealers parts department. It is advertised under accessories from GM & has a GM part number. Here is the add: “ Cat-Back Exhaust - This twin transverse muffler system empties into four highly-polished stainless-steel exhaust tips that feature the Genuine Corvette Accessories emblem. The touring version meets noise-level requirements.”
They also have a “Off Road” version which I just ordered for my 2008 coupe for around $1300. I’m told they are made by Borla.
Anyone have these & give me an idea of what the "Off Road" version of this GM pipe is going to sound like, or can give me a cross reference to the Borla pipes?
Thanks
Make sure you listen to one before purchase. My neghbor bought the touring for his 08 and does not like it. It is very loud inside the car at idle or when you take your foot off the gas when driving. Doesn't sound much louder outside the car than my 08. The dealer told him it would add 20 HP which I'm not so sure of......
You guessed it their Borla's, off road are the Stingers. Had em sold em to much drone and just too loud all the time for my tastes. The situation only got worse after header install, but I must admit they sounded great and if it wasn't for the drone at highway speeds in 6th gear I'd of kept em.
Thanks,
I originality called the service manager & asked about changing mufflers & how it would affect my 100,000 mile warrantee. He told me about the GM cat backs & since they are GM & installed my the dealership my warrantee would not be effected & he would put a note on my work order indicating that. That’s why I went with them. He also said my stock pipes would be intact & I could have them reinstalled if need be. The pipes are due in in 10 days.
I just listened to them on YouTube & thought they sounded great.
Catback exhausts are not a warranty breaker from any OEM. Expect to gain very little power. Stingers are loud with a low WAF and drone. Good sound when not droning. Too late now but never buy a catback without hearing it in person. A good size GTG will have all the major players at this point and most folks are more than happy to demo their pipes.
Many things can void your warranty when it comes to modifications but cat backs are safe. I have not read of a single instance of warranty denial on a corvette based on the installation of a catback. Headers on the other hand can be a crap shoot and many have had warranty issues with them. You have to keep in mind that GM has sold catbacks sourced from Borla, Corsa, and other OEM muffler outfits and can hardly claim they might cause or contribute to a failure of other unrelated components. Even the epa gives a catback a green light for installation as they do not affect emissions.
Dealers will try to tell you the world is not round to sell you something.
I chang emy catback too and I have my stock mufflers in my garage just in case, but I never heard a catback voiding the warraty.
i've got the gm performance muffler (touring) with 4 new, c6 logo, oval tips i'll let you have for $500 plus shipping. i wanted something louder and got corsa sports.
