Anyone have lifter noise upon start up? Only happens when left for 4 hours or more. It just happens for a second then goes away. It's the kind of problem that gets you "can't duplicate the problem" at the dealership.
I don't know if I should wait for a while or address the problem now.
I did a search on tappets and lifters. The only thing I saw was cam changes. That was the reason for the post. I just wanted to know if this was common with the LS3 engines.
For the first 2 months or so - mine made a very loud "lifter type" noise on startup after sitting at least - overnight. It would do it every 1 out of 3 times, and then after a few weeks, 1 out of every 5 times, and less frequently over time. Now, after 6 months, it has not made the "loud" noise on startup for some time. I suspect there might have been a little bit of trash in one of the lifters, or maybe one lifter was too tight. It hasn't made that very loud "clatter" noise on startup since early November.
However, it does have a little light lifter noise on every cold startup (has to at least sit overnight) for about 3 seconds everytime. I don't worry about it.
Now, some have mentioned oil filters (anti-drainback valve) but I use the AC Delco filter, and besides, I don't think it would matter since our oil filters are vertical and they should remain full, even when the engine is not running.
BTW - lets not get carried away with being police. It doesn't hurt for some topics to get recycled. Not everyone visits this site every day. They could miss some topics.
It's not like he's asking which is better - Z51 or F55

Don
You may have noted a normal condition. Mine does this sometimes also. It seems to be random. I believe it is due to lifter bleed down, due to the static force of the valve springs acting against the hydraulic lifter(s) when engine is off, since there is no oil pressure to keep the lifter(s) pumped up.
why read a bunch of searches that's why it is a forum for info and making friends, human interaction. also brand new tsbs and info could happen any minute the old posts could be useless

I would suggest you have it checked out. I've modified my 05 C6: SC, heads, cam, etc.
I noticed a lifter tick in Dec (07), then it went away. I came back in Feb. On the way to work this past Friday, car was running fine, all of a sudden, lost power, backfired, then died.
Initial diagnosis: collapsed lifter Now the shop (a corvette speciality shop--Horsepower Sales in Pompano Beach, FL) will have to pull the heads, check the lifters, valves, cam and block.
Morale of the story--don't take lifter ticking lightly

I agree. However, most of the reported lifter noise is just very light ticking at startup (after sitting for several hours) that goes away within 3 seconds of startup, so that may be different.
