I tried two cheaper 160 stats but my running temps would hang in the 140's and 150's. I finally tried a LPE stat and a good thermometer and tested them on the stove. The LPE was the only one that worked correctly that I tested.

Default autozone

$11.58 at autozone and has worked well for several months.

not that you asked, but when you change it you can put a rag in a pastic baggie and shove that in to the engine block so you lose minimal fluid and no burping really needed.

Keep in mind I'm a newbie. Can someone tell me the advantages & disadvantages to running a cooler thermostat?

Cheers!

there are two types, the short one and the long/sprin loaded one, if youre in the north, get the spring loaded one......I had the cheap $15 one and once the temps dipped below 30, the car ran @150degrees and screwed up my tune, the car ran like crap!!!!.......those that live in the South wont know the diff

the $15 thermo

the $45 thermo
