After the vararam and the 160 stat install, I have lost the the signal from my water coolant sensor. Can anyone tell me where the sensor is.
I don't know where the sensor is, but many of us who have installed the 160 stat have had problems with the readings until all the air is out of the system. Did you get ALL the coolant back in the system that you drained out? If not, then you most likely have air in the system and around the sensor. That is my guess.
Thanks, I found the sensor. The problem is that after I changed the 160 stat and the CAI I drove the car for 2hrs w/no problems. The next day I was driving for about 10 min. and the DIC came on and said "HOT ENGINE AIR CONDITION OFF" so I turned off the AC and read the coolant temp and it said "XXX deg.F" and my oil temp was 160 deg. F. I don't think that the car had over heated at all. I checked the temp sensor visional and it seemed okay. I started the car about 8 hrs later and I still get the DIC reading as before and the fan is running. Next, I disconnected the battery and was going to let it sit over night and try it again tomorrow. I don't know what my next step should be if this doesn’t fix it. Any ideas would be appreciated.
I may be off base here, but is it possible you have a small air pocket and you need to do some massaging of the hose? Haven't seen that message before but have had air pockets.
Cheers
Try this:
With the engine cold, pull off the small rubber hose off the front of the driver's side head. Take off the radiator cap. Put your mouth on the opening and blow until you see coolant coming out of the hose you took off. Put the hose back on and top off with coolant. DO NOT SWALLOW ANY COOLANT!
I got this procedure off this forum and it worked great to get the air out of my system after my 160 stat installation.
I just did the same mods (Vararam and 160 t-stat) to my 07 C6 A6 last weekend.
I had seen on the forum someone had suggested parking the vehicle so that
the front end was somewhat elevated. You could use ramps, or in my case,
my driveway has a pretty steep slant so I just parked it on there. With the
overflow cap off, you fill it up close to the top while its running. You then
run it up to 2,000 RPM for 2 minutes. Refill the tank, and do it again until it
doesn't go down any more. It took me about 4 times. I've driven about 50
miles and it seems like it is OK.
FWIW, I have not reprogrammed the fans. Before it ran about 199 and now it
runs about 183.
I still have the same problem. I can figure this out. It seems like an intermittent problem. If I unplug the battery cable for a while then start it, it goes away for about 10 - 30 minutes, even if the engine is already hot.
