[3.90 vs 4.10] First drive comparison

I'm sure everyone thats a regular here in C6 Tech knows I was never really happy with the 4.10.......anyways, having the car apart, I had Chuck do a clutch upgrade, I went with the Textralia OZ-700 Single Disc Clutch so it came out to be a win-win situation for both of us.
For those that say, "3.90? all youre gonna gain 100rmps" thats
6th gear @ 2,000rpm
4.10 =66mph
3.90 =75mph
under normal cruising 70mph
4.10= 21 mpg
3.90= 27 mpg
6th gear @ 100 mph
4.10 =3,000 rpms
3.90 =2,700 rpms
strong pulls
4.10, all you see is the rpm needle sweeping to red line, now my mph needle is the one thats doing the sweeping to the right.
The car now goes from 80 to 130 in a flash...
No longer do I have to shift the hell out of the car and only be doing 80mph.....
welcome2try has been in my car when I had the 4.10, I would like to invite him to come for a drive to feel the difference

Looks like you are now at pretty much the same place as me RPM wise with my 4.10s and the F55 (base) trans gearing (Im at about 1900rpm at 73 or so)....of course.....you're all cammed up and ahead of me....for now at least

Anyone want a great deal on a slightly used set of 4.10s??

This should be interesting...
Glad you're happy with your set up. That's all that matters. Enjoy and good job Chuck.

4.10s with base tranny is the same as 3.90's w/ Z-51
I am fully aware
...but this thread is different, it's based on a driving experience, identical car, diff rears. I cant possibly see someone arguing with me based on what they heard vs me driving a 3.90s & 4.10s, but then again, this is C6 Tech

My gears were sold thru CoW to someone that wanted to save a couple bucks on 4.10 w/ both harden output shafts

......the car is so much faster now, it scared me last night

I assume you meant 4.10 = 21mpG and 3.90 27mpG, you cant be serious about this!!! There is not a 30% mileage difference from 4.10's to 3.90's. Must have been uphill one way and down hill the other. Also if you were only getting 21mpg @ 70 with the 410's something else was way off. I do WAAAAY better than that with 410's and an ECS blower.Re: shifting the hell out of the car and now you dont have to???? Come on Ed, I'm glad you like the 3.90's but there is not THAT much of a difference that you are shifting substantially less.
I'm sure Spin will chime in, but I would bet that the car went from 80 to 130 faster with the 410's than the 3.90's (except you might require an extra shift around the high end).
This was funny to read
, I'm glad you love the gears, but lets not exagerrate here, there isn't that much of a difference. It's your car and the most important part is that you are happy!!
) So a 3.90 in my car would have been somewhere in between 25 and 27 and closer to 25....

RE: Shifting,
to coast/cruise w/ 4.10 around 45~50mpH I would have to be in 5th gear.....everyone keeps saying there's not much of a diff, but there is.....I'll be making some drive video's.
Spin can chime in, Spin can even drive it.....80 to 130 was effordless, my speedometer needle was sweeping faster than the rpm needle and I didnt realize how fast the car got to 130+...........w/4.10, pass 110 I had to floor it & shift
I love it, and it's exactly what I wanted out of the car, a happy medium

I'll also agree with the others that say your car isn't much faster with 3.90's in the 80-130 range, that's like saying your car would be even faster with 3.42's then w/3.90's.
The only thing that can effect it is your 485rwhp. I know with the 4.10's my car is amazing fun on the street and pulls harder in each and every gear compared to stock 3.42's. I'll also be able to finish the track in 4th gear because I'm short about 110rwhp compared to your vette.
In the end though it's about what makes you happy, sounds like your gonna be set with the 3.90's. They'll give you enough 4th gear to be through the 1/4 with your trap speed.
BTW did you ever try shifting to 5th on a pass? If so how much did it hurt your times.
(In my former 3000GT VR4 I would bang the 3rd gear limiter right before the traps and hit 112mph, a shift to 4th in those last 50ft would drop my trap to 109-110mph.....it sucked!)
