This may be a dumb question... i have an 05 c6. what are the benefits of paying $1000 for borla or corsa vs just replacing the stock mufflers with magnaflow or flowmaster?
My opinion? Too quiet at idle, could hardly hear them, too quiet at full throttle, 20% louder than stock at most.
They drone like hell on the highway at 1700-1800 rpm. That drone was a BEAR. Couldn't talk in the car. Sold them after a couple of months. Went to stock mufflers and cutouts. Best of both worlds.
I should add that I've heard the Magnaflow system designed for the Corvette does not drone. Cannot confirm that but I can't imagine they'd put out a product that drones like those generic mufflers do.

Check the for sale section for a used Z06 exhaust system. You will get the baffles in the mufflers. Then get yourself one of the NPP switches and you can keep the baffles open whenever you want.
I did the Magnaflow mufflers, the same ones as mentioned above, but a different part # because I used the regular SS, not polished. I "think" the # was 12336. They ARE SS and cost about 60% of the polished ones. I LOVE the sound at idle, on acceleration, BUT there is a drone at 1500 - 1800, 70 - 75 MPH in 6th gear manual trans. I do take the car on trips, but for long trips we use a different car so it's not much of a big deal. IMHO they are 50+% louder. They also burble a lot on decell, again manual trans.

What I'm saying is that the 1500-1800rpm range seems to be the dominant place for drone to occur. Whether it's minor or headache inducing depends on the set up.
I had MagnaFlow mufflers on my 2005 C6, and I liked them. $300 parts and installation. Just replaced them with NPP mufflers including M2W remote switch. I did this so I could eliminate drone by closing the valves. MagnaFlow had some drone as described in previous posts. I would have kept them had it not been for a good deal on NPP mufflers. Got the pair for $440 delivered including extension pipes and S.S. tips. Take-offs from a 2008 C6. I think NPP mufflers retail for about $700 each brand new.
The drone issue is so subjective. I have heard folks say NO drone, but when I ride in that same car ... yep drone. What I think is excessive is "just right" for others. Go figure!
