Default adjustable gear set, timing wheel, cam changes

I want to get members input about using adjustable gear sets when doing cam swaps. It seems to make a lot of sense for an extra $200ish.

It was made aware to me that using a degree wheel is not worthwhile on our LS2-3 motors since there is nothing to adjust to compensate for any discrepancies made apparent while using a degree wheel. BUT if we use adjustable gear sets, then we can compensate for any errors from GM (what is exactly TDC to our new cam). Furthermore, if we need more advance to make up for a soggy low end response, we have that option without tearing the entire front of the motor off to change the cam.

Thoughts?

Cloyes makes several adjustable timing sets for the LS motor. If your engine has a lot of wear, then I would recommend replacing the OEM timing set with a quality Cloyes set and of course degreeing the cam.

CHEVROLET – LS1 / LS2
Our LS1 / LS2 coverage is growing. This year we add four new offerings that fit BOTH your LS1 and LS2 engines.
TWO NEW ORIGINAL TRUE® ROLLERS
TWO NEW HEX-A-JUST® TRUE®
ROLLERS
These sets start with All-Billet Steel Sprockets, made “oversized” to eliminate chain slack found in the OE and other aftermarket sets.
Both sprockets are then Induction Heat-Treated, and “Hand-Matched” at the factory with our Premium TRUE® Roller chain - giving them superior strength and precise accuracy for maximum performance.
The Hex-a-Just® sets, like all our Hex-a-Just® sets, are easily adjustable to plus or minus 6 degrees.
TRUE® Single Roller Sets
ORIGINAL TRUE® ROLLER #9-3158
HEX-A-JUST® TRUE® ROLLER #9-3158A
And Now Double Roller, too! Our newest, #9-3159 and 9-3159A, are Cloyes Premium TRUE® Double Roller chain sets. These sets come complete with spacers and instructions to work under stock covers.
