Underneath car squeek, squeek....fixed
All,
My '08 has been making this really annoying squeeking noise anytime the car was running. It was coming from underneath the car. Having spent WAY too many hours under my C5 I remembered that the two exhaust hanger springs can squeek. So I crawl under there today and they are bone dry, no lube on them no nothing. Hit them good with white lithium grease and it solved the problem. Its interesting that something like the clutch return spring is completely covered in grease but they leave these dry. Granted the clutch spring is on the inside but gee how much would it cost to coat those springs?
If you think you have the same issue just grab your tail pipes, when cool of course, and shake the mufflers a bit and if you hear squeeking its most certainly those springs.
Nothing too scientific here but I figured it might help someone.
Now I just have to figure out what the clunking noise is in the back of the car. Such fun with the brand new friggin car.

Wow, can't believe how timely this is... mine has recently started squeaking too! Didn't occur to me that it might be the H-pipe springs... will be under there with a can of lithium grease ASAP!
