Thanks. Interesting. I've read reports that people thought they were too stiff, but it sounds like you think they lack stiffness. When you say side-to-side action, do you mean the body roll type, or the rear end sliding around in turns type?
That's pretty amazing. Any warranty left on them? Any contact with Bilstein re fix for a nominal charge? I mean, if you have 50K miles on them, probably not. But less than that, I just can't imagine that they program them to fail much sooner.
Well, that's a good one! How's that for using my crystal ball? Have you checked into the lifetime warranty on them? I'd give a call to that Poway facility and see what they say. Could be a very interesting follow up post.
You will hard pressed to find a worn out bilstein. But when it does happen, many things can happen. First off, did the shock owe you anything? If you have years and years of pounding on them, you got your moneys worth. If you feel that you didn't get your moneys worth, use their warrenty program.
So what to do,
1. Well Bilstein West can rebuild, and or revalve the shocks. This cost about the same as a new set.
2. Buy a new set of Bilsteins.
3. Buy a different shock brand.
Bilstein as a company will not sell a new set of shocks, that is what dealers like me are for But they will work on the shock for you.
