Default Yet another Vararam install question

I just recieved my Vararam yesterday. Everything looks great with the system. My question is, why does the instructions show to cut the front plastic piece while it's on the car, then take the piece out, then reinstall? One the piece is cut, can't the intake just slide into place without removing the plastic radiator cover?

I'm a very mechanically sound person, and the install really looks simple. Just want to make sure the intake can slide into place without removing the shroud. Thanks

Once the shroud is cut the unit will slide in place in one piece. I found that you have cut more off towards the front of the shroud than what the template shows. Be careful you don't cut into the condenser that is under the shroud. I used a box-cutter with the blade just barely exposed. You can aslo slide something underneath the shroud to protect the condensor.

You have to cut more off the front than what the template shows? This is to allow room to slide the new unit in right? Also, was the templates width okay?

I removed the shroud and cut it on the ground - the last thing I wanted to do was risk cutting the condenser. It was a royal pain in the A--.. to remove the shroud, and even then I did have to trim some more while it was installed. To trim it I used a pair of garden clippers, it's not a very pretty cut with the clippers but I was able to round it off some then use the enclosed stripping to make it look pretty.

As for installing it assembled, I tried that first but couldn't keep the unit clamped together, the rubber clamps kept coming off. So I mounted the lower half the attached the top - no probs, it went right on.

By far the hardest part of the install is removing and/or cutting the shroud; if it wasn't for that, the install would take about five minutes.

So far I love the unit, it has since settled and the clamps are holding like they're supposed to. I checked it yesterday after a couple hundred miles and found it clean, there was some gritty sand type stuff on the lower half, I have no idea where or how I came across that....

I found that I couldn't get the unit to bolt up to the bulkhead correctly without removing more of the shroud in front. The red bracket wouldn't fit up against it properly. The unit would slide in OK, it just didn't fit. The template width was fine.

As the other poster mentioned, be careful not to cut the condenser.

And should be stickied Slide something over top of the condenser
its extremely important!!! I did the whole thing with no problem
Then Like a genious I am decided to clean it up a bit and hit the condenser I had no idea it was that sensative it took about 2+
hours to empty out I was so dissapointed dont make the same mistake I did. good luck
