Default C6 Issues?

Hey C6 Guys,

I'm a C5 Z06 guy, but the GF is interested in a 2008 C6 coupe with the new LS3, and I'm wondering if there are any major issues with the C6s like there was with the C5s (example -- column lock, oil burning, valve spring failure, leaking rear ends, fuel sensors going haywire, etc)? I haven't been keeping up with the C6 world, so if anyone could help me out here I'd be grateful.

I beat the heck out of mine, little over 13.5k and its trouble free, except the stupid rear hatch button doesn't work, the roof creaks a bit (never been back for the recall though), and a couple times the gas cap popped off. We cant pump our own gas here in nj, so i dont know if its some dumb attendant or a problem with the cap. I check it all the time now, no problems....

2nd nearly trouble free GM vehicle I've owned (last 96 Z28, got 78k out of that one before i sold it), that i do not drive every day, and when I do drive it, I drive it like I stole it.

No major issues that I am aware of, have read others with minor problems such as creaking top, and tough to shift when cold and of course the dead battery when letting the car sit for a few weeks without a battery tender on it. I myself am happy to say I have had no problems minor or major the car is awesome.

I can't remember what member first posted this major issue, but I have to say that since realizing it I have had a really hard time ignoring it...

Let's see.. how did they put it? "The car doesn't fit in my office... I'm constantly finding myself checking the window to make sure the copy machine guy who drives the white mustang with the grey cloth interior isn't peeing on my tire."

I have no idea who it was that first posted it, but I'll never forget it.

Most problems were with earlier C6s, esp. the 2005s. Column lock, operator error of not shutting off manual tranny in reverse, delaminating roof. Special problems unique to the 2008s have been previously addressed in this thread and were not as numerous as the problems with the 05s.

It may pull away from your C5 Z06 on street...

Be warned: This could cause a divorce or massive spending wars to get their car the fastest.

I've been lurking on this forum quite a while, in anticipation of eventually getting a C6. The most common problems I see comments on now are the roof creaks (which have some new factory and non-factory fixes available now), unexplained radio static, occasional glitches with active handling, and occasional glitches with the keyfob system. Or the start button itself cracking or falling out.

As complicated as modern cars are, that's not bad.

No problems, simply an unbelievably fast, great handling/braking, fuel efficient sports car that's amazingly reliable/dependable.
