The 1997 to 2000 C5 used one model sensor, and the 2001 to 2004 C5 used a different model, and you have to have the correct C5 sensor for the year you're putting it on.
When the C6 came out it used a different sensor than the C5, so C5 sensors won't work on a C6 and C6 sensors won't work on a C5.

Nope - won't work.

When the C6 came out it used a different sensor than the C5, so C5 sensors won't work on a C6 and C6 sensors won't work on a C5.
