I have started to monitor the transmission temp of my A6. Today the outside air temp was 85 degrees and I was stuck in stop and go traffic. The transmission temp creeped up to 207 degrees. When traffic started to move again, the trans temp dropped down into the 180’s. The water temp never got above 210 degrees.
The high temps of summer aren't here yet, so what is considered a high auto transmission temp?
At 240-260 degrees, the trans may make a DIC readout that says to slow car or let trans cool down (paraphrasing the manual). Since the stock trans cooler allows the engine coolant to run through, you may see slightly higher than coolant level temps in the trans temp readout. My A6 had catastropic failure at 260 degrees, according to the tech that disassembled it to verify it was indeed a factory parts failure and not abuse.(it has a sort of data recorder in it's computer).Using the paddles will also increase the temp to a higher level faster than letting it shift it's self.

Damn, I feel better. I've got an A4 with a 3200 stall and a stage 5 tranny with a B&M tranny cooler/with a fan- my temps in 90-100 degree weather do almost the same as yours- maybe even a little cooler. Either way, we're both OK
It took me lots of time/money/trials to figure out how to make mine run that cool with my set-up.
With a 3200 stall on an A6 and b&m tranny cooler i run 200-210 idling and in the mid 190s cruising. My first tranny cooler got smashed the other day and yeah seeing 252* 1 block from the shop is a scary thing. now im good lol. today was around 94/95* , good ole florida heat. now i just gotte figure out how to not overheat the alternator and im good.
I heard somewhere if your stuck idleing for a long peroiod of time( stuck in stop and go traffic, long red lights etc.) putting trans in nuetral will take strain off and allow it to cool more easily. I do it when I can.
