No, what you do not understand is this is still happening at tempertures above 65 degrees and after 15 to 20 miles. I have owned many corvettes and have not had this problem. if you feel you should coverup for chevys short coming then so be it. mog8
Well, I took the following cars for a test drive today. new mustang GT, 91 morgan plus8, 289 cobra, and a new Miata. You were right, they all shift better when cold then a new corvette. I would say chevy needs to get new engineers.
this is in fact a problem and i have actually contacted some guys i know at tremec about this.
i have owned 3 count them 3 brand new 2008 corvettes including our latest an 08 z06 this year and they ALL GRIND going from 1-2 when cold and also when warmed up to some extent. now this does NOT i repeat not happen below 4000 rpms and also does not happen if you shift swiftly but NOT VERY quickly. i can shift the car no problem whether hot or cold if i short shift below 4000 rpms and not pull back super fast on the lever which is porbhably accounts for 90 percent of a typical driver of a corvette. i shift my cars very fast but do not powershift them ever. just normal fast shfting. there is something REALLY wrong with this setup.
the odd thing is our 2008 viper with the exact same tranny tr6060 never grinds!!!
i have owned 96 cars in my lifetime including 8 corvettes, 14 vipers, 9 mustangs and countless other porsches, lotuses, mini coopers, supras etc. etc. and i can tell you this is not normal.
i shift my 08 vettes exactly like my old 02 and 04 z06s and they NEVER ground the gears whether hot or cold. notchy maybe but never grinding!! am i mean grinding not just notchy.
for me to buy 3 brand new 08 vettes in less than 3 months and ALL of them grind 1-2 the same way is not acceptable.
also, and i know chevy will not give a crap about this but putting a short shifter in surely worsens the situation since it shifts the gears so much faster that the synchro failures are even more pronounced.
to make sure this was actually NOT the m,ain factor i decided to keep my stock oem shifter is the z06 for a week or so and sure enough it still grinds 2nd gear though even with the stock shifter.
i hope they get a fix cuz it ain't right!!!

My '08 1-2 GRINDS (or sometimes just notchy) say below 40-50F no matter how slow I shift it even at very low RPM's. Sounds like I'm one of the lucky ones. I just start out in 2nd for 15mins or so and its just fine. Can't wait until I have to explain that to a buyer some day.....hopefully far into the future.

i have an 08 automatic and when the gears shift i feel it going into each gear too hard. ive been told this is normal so w.e ill live with it.actually been told this is good cause it shifts into each gear, loosing no power.
Still having problems with my shifting from 1st to 2nd and then 3rd. Has anyone had this problem corrected? the problem is a chatter when shifting or changing gears. Even when the transmission is warmed up. At Carlisle this year one off the engineers said there is and update for that problem " BUY A NEW CORVETTE". never again.
It beats the heck out of me that when someone faces an issue, because grinding in a gear box is a problem, that there are always people willing to step in and support the defects.
Love is blind is probably the saying that is the most tested on a daily basis.
I had a small amount of grinding at new in my 08 but as the miles past it became less and less noticeable. At 11k my tranny never grinds anymore however I don't do high rpm shifts when cold (IMO not smart to do)

Almost everyone reports the problem for the first few miles if the temp is 40*F or lower and almost no one has an issue at 70*F or warmer.
If you experience this problem in warm weather and it doesn't go away after a mile of driving, you need to keep pressing Chevy on this. Sad to say, but it may be lawyer time.
Mine is starting to get better with 4500 miles on the clock. Mine is very notchy (does'nt grind) at even 1400 rpm shifts, so I do a delay shift, just let the shifter wait a second before putting it into second and third. I do have to say that it is getting better.
Mine will actually shift fine when cold at 2600 rpm's, just not around 1400 to 1500 where the synchro's really need to work. I will pull it out next year if it is not 100% and buy a new tranny from RPM. I just hate the tailgaters coming close to clipping my rear bumper during my delay shifts!
I had the same symptoms in my 08 manual.. You need to let it break in which takes several thousand miles.. It took about 8K miles before mine shifts "almost" perfect when cold. When It's cold either double clutch or
shift very easy..
The more miles on the car the smoother it shifts with no grinding when cold..
Give it time.. better than having it torn apart by the dealer only to have found nothing wrong..
The grinding is normal when the transmission is cold. There are several ways to relieve the symptoms:
1. Change the transmission oil. (However, it does not totally solve the problem)
2. The most problematic is the 1-2 shift, you can try double clutching to 3rd instead till the tranny oil has had time to warm up.
3. Wait for warmer weather, usually above 65 F (Mine requires 80F).
If your transmission is grinding even after driving (not idling) the first 20 minutes, then you probably do have a serious problem with the transmission and use your warranty.

Slow shifting was a problem for me.
Grinding NO! If your grinding drop it off at the dealer and say fix it!
Slow shifting when cold. I swapped my tranny fluid to RP. It helped and after sat 10k it is no longer an issue.
I'm part of the club...mine does a light clunk -almost grind like it grinds one toot if that- when cold, unless I granny shift it...doesn't do it if I shift at higher rpm (3k+) nor is it a problem when it's up to temp...I'm not too worried about it because of the fact that when it is up to temp, it's very nice...but you gotta wonder...mine did not do it when new, only started at around 2800 miles, I don't power shift either...I'm thinking about doing a fluid change on it just to see.
