I Am Having My 2008 Ls3 A6 Dyno Tuned This Week.i Am A Little Apprehensive About Changing The Thermostat,i Would Like To Know If Any One Has Had A Problem With There Auto After Changing The Stat And How Much Of A Differance It Will Make In The Dyno Tune If I Dont Change It.i Would Also Like To Know What The Fan Settings Should Be, Because The Tuner Told Me He Sets Them Agressively. Thanks In Advance.
The good part of the dyno is that the operator can pick and choose their coolant temps by simply waiting/letting the car cool between pulls but still I would definitely consider installing that thermostat before the tune for it could make your tuner's job a little easier and he can set the fans accordingly. And I think the LS3 tends to run slightly hotter than the LS2s did.
I just installed one today and it was very easy and I'm already seeing cooler temps. I'm not sure about the fan settings though. I've done some searching and come up with this which I have running currently and it seems to keep the temps down.
Fan desired % vs. ECT
192 = 20%
196 = 75%
199 = 80%
203 = 90%
Note: It's been stated that setting the 192° degree percentage higher than 25% and the fan will run all the time. 196 = 65-75%, 199 and up 90%.
Also it's been advised to leave the AC settings factory.
