Default BCM swap question

I am thinking about picking up a different C6 but I was thinking about keeping the Nav system in my current one. The car I am thinking about buying is a 06 but the car I have now is a 07. Will the PCM freak out if I swapped them to avoid tech 2 programing they are both 3LT cars? I was looking and the BCM's look like they are different part numbers anyone know about that?

I guess I don't understand what you're asking. There's certainly no Tech 2 programming required when you get a new car.

Are you talking about the memory stuff you've programmed into the seats/mirrors/etc.?

What do you mean you want to keep the Nav that's in your car? Are you talking about the places you've programmed into the Nav and are in your history of destinations? It's going to be a lot easier to just program the Nav in your new car.

In either case, you're going to find it much, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH easier to just sit down in your new car for a few minutes and reprogram the memory system and the Nav addresses/destinations you go to frequently than trying to swap the BCM's. I'm not sure you can even do that. Even if you can, I'm pretty sure you'll need a Tech 2 to get both cars to recognize the different BCM's.

I own a 2007 with nav. Looking at a 2006 without nav. I want to pull the Nav system out of the 07. You have to tell the new BCM the computer has Nav so it works with the Hud. If you swap BCM's the computer should be ok but I am not sure if the Bcm's have the vin programmed into them.

Ohhhh!! Okay - now I understand!

I don't know where the BCM is. I've heard it's not too easy to get to, but that may not be the case.

I do not know if you can just swap the BCM's, but I would imagine that you would certainly need a Tech 2 to get the car to recognize a different one. It talks with a bunch of other computers over the CAN bus, and I would sure think that things would need the help of a Tech 2 to get everything to be able to communicate with each other.

I would think it would be a lot easier to just leave the Nav in your old car and get a new one for the new car. I'm not sure, but I think you're gonna need some Tech 2 work either way.

Hopefully somebody with more knowledge of the system will chime in with better info for you.

Good luck!

Part of the car's VIN is stored in the *radio*. If you swap the radios, the first thing the radio does on power-up is check to see if its internally-stored VIN segment is different that then one being reported over the car's network. If it is different, the radio locks. You must use a Tech2 to do a "radio VIN relearn" anytime you swap used radios between newer GM vehicles to tell the radio to store the new car's VIN.

I don't know if the base radio does this, but it is true for the 6-disk and NAV radios.

Cheers,
Kent

That is what I was thinking. But I think it looks at the Vin in the BCM not the PCM so I thought if I swapped them it would work. Any idea's?
