Cats or no cats?
I have an 08 project where I am putting in a LS376/480hp motor. I was just informed that The cats I planned on using are no good. Other than the Federal part what problems can I expect if I use the LG pipes to bypass or "test" the converters? If there are any problems what can I do to rectify them?
Your engine control system uses two O2 sensors per side, one in front and one behind the catalytic converter. The rear one is monitored to determine the health of the cat. When the cat comes up to temp and lights off, it burns everything left in the exhaust and the rear O2 output is flat. Without a cat, its output will not be flat, but will vary just like the front O2 sensor and your ECU will set a code. This can easily be locked out by a tuner or even locked out with a handheld Predator.
The other problem you may encounter is excessive fumes in the cockpit. Some are more sensitive than others and say it is terrible, while others say it is not that bad.
Another alternative is to install hi-flow cats in an aftermarket X pipe that will not restrict exhaust flow or inhibit power.

That pretty much answers my question. I was just looking for an easy out and had the pipes available. Is the fit of cats pretty much the same among the vettes or are they year model dependant. ie all C6 fit any or will I have to look for a particular year?
It all depends, each person has their own preferences.
Some people like cats and some poeple like dogs, some are even allergic to cats and therefor cannot own cats but then their wife might be a cat person so this causes a dilemma. But if you're A dog person you will always be...oh, wait a minute, you meant, umm, oh nevermind.

I picked a pair of cats this morning. I was not sure what effect the cats had on the corvettes. I haven't messed with that part of the car to know how the computer factored in as well trouble codes. I've seen plenty of exhaust systems with no cats and wondered what else they had to do to keep everything operating properly. Sounds like more than I want to mess with at this time. Thanks for the input.
