Default Tranny cooler config.

Ok so im little worried about my tranny temps. I have an 07 with built motor cammed and procharged. My A6 is using a 3200 stall converter, and 3 tranny coolers. 2 of the tranny coolers are mounted in the pockets behind the rear fenderwells with holes drilled in to allow more air into those pockets. We have the third mounted underneath the trunk above the mufflers.

We tried the front with a single cooler, and it never lasted long being lowered an all.

My temps around the city can range from 200-245 before i shut it down for a while cause i dont like seeing it that high. On the highway cruising it will get down to 205* and thats a constant cruise length of 30 miles at 1300-1500rpm. An i never get on the throttle when its this hot.

Is there anything else im missing to keep the tranny running cooler while in the city. Better mounting locations where i wont bottom them out? Sucks having a monster of a car and being afraid to get on it worrying about it blowing up.

You might be able to mount fans to pull/push the air through the radiators. Increase tranny fluid capacity will help too.

Idk where else to plant coolers or anything for more fluid capacity. I think fans were the next thing in line.

Some how you need to get more air at your coolers(fans). I would not have a tranny cooler near the exhaust, its kinda defeating the purpose(exhaust hot).

around town i run with my cutouts open, so the mufflers are somewhat cool to the touch. we cant find anywhere else on the car to mount the coolers to make them efficient and not prone to bottoming out.

Prolly make a shield if i have too, to keep mufflers from heatin the coolers i guess.

Why don't you mount the cooler in front of the radiator, like in a Z06? It needs airflow to cool- they transfer very little heat just by radiation.

You may want to try this .
Looks like it has done well so far and with only one cooler I was able to get it set up and tucked away

That is high. The converter is locked and your temps should drop to 170* - 180* with a proper aftermarket cooler. You need to find where the heat is coming from. First, Are your aftermarket coolers installed so that they come after the fluid has passed through the stock cooler?Next, what are your highway coolant temps running? If you coolant temps are up around 190* or higher, you are not getting much help from the stock cooler. I'd try running on just your aftermarket coolers and by pass the built-in. Third, are your aftermarket coolers getting airflow? Are they efficent plate type coolers or small tube and fin units? Finally, are any of your cooler lines plugged, small or restrictive?

_
1- We removed everything from the front and have cut the tubing so its all in the back. All three are configured in series in the back.

2. Well we put a huge high velocity fan on the center trans cooler and even with cutouts open the whole time it went from idling 133* and prolly 10min worth of driving(not much stop an go), and it was at 225*. Mufflers where cool enough to palm and keep holding on. (all three tranny coolers were pressure tested, no leaks, and when we dismounted them to move them around all the fluid had no problem coming out both ends. )

3. No my A6 has the tune done to it. When Mike Norris tuned my car, he even went in an changed shift points an what not to his liking. If things dont start to get better i might just have to try out the tranny cooler upfront mod when i do the intercooler mod.

Deeper oil pan , B&M, adds about 2 qts to your capacity, definitely adds to cooling.
