I've often read here that disconnecting the battery for 20 min. will reset the system, as a cure for certain problems. What type of problems? And is there a procedure to follow after re-connecting it, to allow the PCM to re-learn? I would think that the memory and radio settings will be lost at the very least.

A good thing to try with almost any odd electronic glitch encountered with these cars. 10 minutes or more. The memory and radio does not vaporize by the way, but the windows do need to be re-indexed. Then just drive the car and see if the glitch is gone.
Problems may be related to memory seat, radio, A/C, tire pressure to name a few have been cured by doing this. I'm sure that there's more...
I've seen disconnecting the battery (I prefer to do it overnight, just to 'be sure' ) cure all sorts of ailments from radio problems all the way to transmission shifting issues.
The horn kept blasting steadily when I opened the door, until I pulled the under hood fuse. Every time I reinsert the fuse, or one just like it from the box, it goes off. So I'm hoping that disconnecting the battery might reset the alarm or whatever is causing this screwy malfunction. I am able to start and drive it however. Guess I have nothing to lose by trying this.

Your windows will need to be re-indexed by doing the following:
Disconnecting the battery for thirty minutes, This clears the computer. Espically after every mod!!! When changes are made and the battery is not disconnected the computer receives conflicting
Info and sometimes (often) throws codes (CELs)
It does not erase the radio settings or your memory package!!
Disconnecting the battery should be done every 6 months reguardless.

I reconnected the neg battery terminal and took it for a ride. Everything seemed fine. And yes, I had to reindex the windows, which was a breeze. But I still have a shorted out horn. So it's off to the dealer with the GMPP warranty in hand.
