Default C-6 exhaust

a question from a newbie on here--
There is quite a variety of aftermarket exhaust systems, but I haven't seen a comparison, so I can decide which characteristics to select.
Does anyone know of a post that does this, or would you be so kind as to tell me which is better and why. Of course, I realize that it depends on what I want out of it.
I have a TUBI on my Ferrari, which sounds very good, and I heard a B&B on a C6 that I liked, and I liked the idea of having a remote to switch between quiet & noisy. Are there other things that make one better than another? Will most Corvette dealerships install them?
Thank you for your assistance.

There are a lot of different vette exhuast out there and everybody likes something different. The good thing is you can visit most of the manufacturers sites and they have sound clips. Corsa, B&B, borla, slp, route 66 check em all out and see what you prefer.

Thank you, that was helpful.
Next question-- Why do you prefer whichever brand you chose-anyone?

It's very difficult to use sound clips on your computer to decide, kind of like watching an add for how great a TV's picture is on your old set. Listen to as many as you can in person, better yet ride in the car. But I strongly recommend NPPs ( the stock Z06 or optional fro '08 C6s w/ a bypass valve) you'll be happy you did & use a simple on/off controller. This becomes even more critical if do adds like a cam, headers, FAST intake, the car becomes exponentially louder as you do mods. With the NPP you can take you mother for a ride, then open them up & scare all the kids & cats in a 1 mile radius. Drone seems to be a common issue for every aftermarket system, but keep in mind it's very relative from person to person, but you hear people complain about it w/ every system. I went from stock, to Flowmasters (drone), to Flowmaster w/ mods making 450rwhp (loud & drone) then NPP briefly w/o controller (very loud w/ lots of drone), & now w/ controller, bone stock quiet closed, to serious as the come as you apply throttle particularly after 4500 rpms. It's simply the best way to go. I envisioned myself keeping them open most of the time & I have found myself keeping them closed most of the time & opening them when I do some spirited drive or just want to have some fun going the the gears to redline.

You will find this the most common mod & discussed matter on the forum. The one the to be sure, mufflers change sound, not power, at least worth mentioning. Good luck & choose wisely.

I've found the B&B fusion to be the best for me. Good sound and switchable.

I installed Corsa Extreme and it is better than the other Corsa systems I have had for the last six years.

had corsa sports on 2 other vettes. this one i put the B&B Fusions (2006). DRONE like a mother around 1500 RPMS with the windows up. BEWARE.... now trying to get the exhaust commander switch so they stay shut until around 2k rpm's...they look GREAT, sound GREAT outside, but inside, they are more drone prone then the corsas.

Plenty of noise when open & no drone when closed.

Thanks for these comments, very helpful.
Is it best to have a Chevrolet dealer install these, or will they, even?
I don't have a lift.

The B&B's do drone when open at the 1400-1800 rpm range, as do the NPP's and the stock Z06 cans.

My Ultimate Exhaust Commander with user selectable rpm opening takes car of that issue by keeping the butterflies closed in that range and then opening after that range automatically. That way you get no drone and maximum open time for that sweet exhaust sound.
You can also have full open mode and full closed mode too.

Its a great controller for retrofit bi-mode cars as well as NPP or Z06's that want no drone but maximum time with the butterflies open.

Here is my post that outlines what the Ultimate Exhaust Commander is all about. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1860907

Pm or email me if you need any info.

As to deciding what the best exhaust for you is it would be a good idea to try an find people with the system you are thinking about and get a ride and see if you like how it sounds. Its really hard to tell from the video clips on the net, and peoples descriptions and preferences are also very subjective.

Good luck on the hunt for your system and have fun once you find it!

Ben

I agree, my experience is the Chevy dealers are no more qualified than a local shop, actually much less depending on the tech. I installed several sets both on my back & w/ a lift. It's a pretty simple install so a reputable muffler shop would be the way to go. Just be sure they know how to get a vette in the air w/o damaging it, again the dealers are any better at this either.
