I've had the WCC lowering bolts on the back of my 07 C6 for not quite a year now. I was on vacation last week and started hearing a strange sound coming from the PS rear of the car. It was metalic and obviously suspension related. The car handled fine and a cursory look around revealed nothing. I drove it that way for probably 500 miles. Yesterday I got it on the rack and removed the PS rear wheel to look around and this is what I found:
Anyone had one of these fail? Luckily I had bought a set of 4 and only used the rears so I had a spare to replace it with (I destroyed 1 during installation when I first installed them). I need to pull the DS rear and inspect it too but this has me concerned that these aftermarket bolts are engineered to handle the load. I have maybe 10,000 miles on them.
TIA for any feedback.
Paul
PS. I plan to contact WCC tomorrow to see what they think.
I'm not quite sure that I would trust my loaded suspension to a set of $20.00 after-market bolts with regard to lowering the suspension beyond the factory spec's.
Although much more expensive; the correct way is a set of adjustable shocks with a good corner weighted alignment afterwards.
Finally was able to get through to WCC today. Spoke with Bobbi. She was very nice BTW. She told me that these need to be greased at least monthly. The surface is poly not rubber so will wear without grease. That was news to me. It may be my fault, but I don't remember reading any instructions to grease them regularly. I don't think the OEM bolts have a service interval for greasing. She explained that's because they are rubber?
Anyway, she offered to sell me a set at 15% discount which I did. I have already replaced the damaged one but I'm certain the otherside must be ready to fail so I will replace it and begin greasing them regularly and see how it goes.
Hmm, that's an entirely different design Gary. What I really like is that the bolt screws down from the top. It must make it ever so much easier to install. With the WCC or the OEM bolts you have to get the maximum possible separation between the spring and the A-Arm to swing those up into the spring and it can be a major PIA! I wish I would have known about yours sooner. I may just have to bite the bullet and waste the $32 I just paid for the replacements from WCC. Was your pricing for 2 or 4?
Well, we were the first to have them back in 2001 or so ! I love it when someone copies you and does not do it better, only cheaper (this part, our camber kit, Delrin shift ****, etc). Oh well, in any case we now have C6 rears as well. They are priced per pair.

You've got me sold Gary. Question, are they installed by screwing the bolt down from the top through the spring and then into a nut that is molded into the Delrin pad? How do you "hold" the pad to screw the bolt into the nut?

Yes, from the top, then a drop or 2 of Locktite is all you need.

Maybe if you grease your tires they won't wear out so quickly too !
(I think that's hogwash !I call )
