I must disagree with the statement that ethanol production has run up the price of food.
Ethanol comes from "field corn" and most corn used in food product comes from "sweet corn". Only 5% of field corn is used in food production.
The US had 1.8 billion bushels of surplus corn in 2007. Plenty to go around.
9 billion gallons of ethanol will be produced this year and if ethanol was not available you would be paying between .40 to .58 cents more for a gallon of gas. Ethanol at the rack -Us avg. today was 3.34$ per gallon.
Ethanol can also be produced from Biomass which is wood fiber, grasses, corn stalks etc. This is called cellulosic ethanol.
Food prices have been driven up in most part by fuel surcharges and the increased cost of fuel resulting in much higher transportation costs.
The demand for more corn has put nearly 250,000 farmers back to work in the US and they all want a black corvette !!!
You must be a farmer, Because it has raised the price of corn.
Nobody would believe that statement for a minute. It's raised the price of corn so much that ethantol plants that are started are being stopped unfinished. Hope they all go under.Bad idea from the start.
The price of corn has risen due to the fact farmers have to pay over 4$ per gallon for their fuel just like the rest of us to run their tractors, combines, transport trucks. And no I am not a farmer nor tree hugger but some things in life become clearer overtime.
Violence in society is not caused by gun ownership
Bad grades in school are not caused by number 2 pencils
Fat asses are not caused by spoons
And food prices are not...
Besides - your Doritos are not made from sweet corn! Nor is corn meal, etc, etc, etc. OK shall I go on? Almost ANYTHING that has a ground corn in it is not sweet corn, it is field corn. So yes it is used mostly in animal feed ... you and I are included. The above point about farmer's fuel costs is very valid.
Here is the worst part Guys, the hop growers are ripping out hop fields and growing corn to make more money and now there is a worldwide hop shortage, look for the price of beer to go UP
