Default Vararam Installed With Questions

I INSTALLED THE VARARAM AND HAD A FEW QUESTIONS. ARE YOU SUPPOSE TO USE THE BIG SPACER IT CAME WITH? AND MY HOOD MAT IS GETTING TORN AROUND THE FRONT NOSE OF THE INLET TO THE MASS AIR BOX ANY IDEA WHY? OR DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG?

The big spacer is the throttle body spacer and is supposed to increase plenum volume for better performance. I have heard both pro and con on that. It seems some have had a hard time fitting the assembly with the spacer installed, so it is your call.

On the unit rubbing on the hood liner. I do not have that problem, nor do the folks I know of who are running the snake charmer. Perhaps things are not set completely together, i.e. the lower unit is in the correct place, or the hoses are not fully seated....

Cut a small window(1"x2") in the plastic radiator shroud just below the vararam tube. you can then slide the the vararam further into the slicone rubber tube and down about 1/2" and get the clearence.

A second choice is to get a smooth coupler from an aftermarket source like Extremepsi.com and replace the accordion. Just get one about 3/4 inches shorter than the accordion. Am at work, or I could pull the sales slip and tell you what to buy.

I will be honest and tell you I never could get the spacer to fit and not have the middle red couplers rub under the hood. In fact after 12000 miles on my Vararam, I just noticed the very front clamp around the red rubber coupler rubbing a hole through the padding on the underside of the hood last week. I just removed the clamp. No way that coupler is going to move or leak (since it has that remaining clamp on the throttle body), it is all still very tight. I love my Vararam but I have to tell you it demands regular inspections and cleaning.

in order to stop hood mat rubbing just cut the front red coupler 1 inch, reduce it s length by 1 inch this will allow the whole unit to lay closer to the radiator support.
P.s. if you used the spacer add the spacer width to the 1 inch when cutting. It worked for me.

I just installed the Vararam without the spacer on my '07 Z this past weekend and the performance gain is superb. Can anyone quantify the performance gain with vs without the spacer? In other word, does it boost bottom end, midrange or top end prformance and by how much?

Maybe thsi is a question for VaraRam Industries.
