Got a new stage V RPM transmission. When I try to shift from 4th to third, sometimes it just won't let me in. At other times, usually at lower speeds it will let me downshift, but most of the times the tranny will completely block me out from the downshift. What could be the problem here? Do I need to just give the tranny time as it's new?
Did the stock trans do what you want this one to do? Has anything been changed in the tune file since putting in the trans? If the answers are yes to the first and no to the second, call RPM and discuss with them. There may be a good reason for the way it acts compared to stock. Also, at what rpm and car speed are you trying to downshift from 4th to 3rd?
Edit--I thought he was asking about an A6, never mind....

this is what you do.
put it in neutral. now can you move the stick side to side without lineing up with 1-2 or 5-6. if you can, slightly hold the stick to the left and try to put it into 3rd. does it go in? now slightly hold the stick to the right and try again to put it into 3rd. is it blocked?
i have had this problem before, but not with RPM trans.
the problem is in the detent system of the shifter linkage inside the trans.
an easy fix for this without replacing the trans is to get a shifter with springs in it to center the stick.

Does this mean something is internally wrong with the trans though? Would getting a shifter with springs in it to center the stick just be a quick fix for something that's internally broken? I just don't want to go with some quick shifter fix then later on run into more problems.
