Does anyone know if an automatic transmission will hold up to the torque of the LS-7 engine? I'm sure GM only offered the manual for a reason. Unfortunately, some of us are too tall to use that clutch pedal in the C6.
Several on the forum had auto conversion on their Zs. The new 2009 550 HP CTS-V will have an auto option. So there are modification to the current C6 auto that can up grade it for 505 HP service and GM will have a factory auto capable of supporting 550 HP. I doubt GM will offer an auto in the Z06 for financial reasons involved in getting the combo certified.
Will it hold up to the torque? Well, depends on which auto you want to use, and how much you want to spend.
The vast majority of the world's highest horsepower cars use auto trannies. Arent too many single-second folks rowing their own gears through a clutch anymore these days. A built TH400 would serve just fine.
The firewall and floorboard might become a little agitated though.
