I have no clue as to what it is and it's hard for me to describe. I rev the engine and when the rpms are coming down is when the noise occurs. It's like a whine/creaking door sound. The sound is coming from the engine bay. If I had to guess, maybe the throttle body. Does anyone know what it is or could be, and is it another "common" problem with '05 Vettes?

Deceleration popping? It's definitely not a popping sound. It's coming from the engine, not the exhaust. I opened up the hood and stood up while press on the accelerator pedal and it's definitely coming from the hood. Again, it's like a whining/door creaking sound.
I can hear and "feel" that noise when I'm cruising. I just noticed it yesterday.

I noticed that you have headers.
When I did my header install I noticed a lot more sound coming from the engine, I wouldn't be too worried about it. You could just be hearing the valves.
A whisping sound could also be an exhaust leak. You said it only occurs on deceleration? Normally, an exhaust leak increases with more throttle, so that might not be it.
Maybe, try having someone on the accelerator while you get a closer look... and figure out exactly where its coming from.
Bad06vette, it's not valvetrain related and it's not an exhaust leak. Not a whisping or ticking sound. The only time it occurs is when I rev the engine and the rpms are coming down.
I'll have to have someone press the pedal so I can get a closer listen.
Honestly, I think it's the throttle body. It's a drive-by-wire design, not cable driven. I think when the throttle body blade is closing, the gears inside are making the noise. This is a guess though. The more throttle I give it, the louder it is coming down on the rpms.

Hmm, interesting. Let me know when you figure out what it is. I'm interested in hearing what is the culprit of the sound.
Check my post on a noise I am chasing. Might be the same thing. Mine only does it on decel and when a slow rolling speeds. Pull your console and the shift boot and listen in the torque tube area. I thought mine was coming from the dash/engine area until I did this.
Did you ever find out the problem? I'm having a similar problem, i think it may be the water pump, or something else that it turned by the belt system whining when the car slows down/decelerates.
I noticed this on mine yesterday after changing my tires...Mine does it at a while decelerating around 60 only.. Is your noise at a certain rpm or speed??
i should not even be replying to this as this kind of stuff is wayyyyyyy over my head but i could not help notice your signature shows you have a s/c.. do these not have bearings in them that go bad from time to time and make that kind of noise you are describing?

Was there any diagnosis/resolution to this? I just noticed the same thing on my 06 A6. No supercharger or engine work (only Vararam CAI). Hoping it's not major. Happens with A/C on or off. Anyone else?
