Default 06 C6 Air Conditoning Question

I use my 06 C6 A6 as a daily driver. It has been unusually hot here, even for Texas. I have found that while driving the car after it is warmed up and the water temp shows between 180-190 that whenever I stop at a red light, the air conditioner goes from blowing cold to blowing hot air, almost as if you selected the heater. After I get up to about 30mph or above, cold air will start to flow again. Is this normal in 100 degree plus weather?
Thanks in advance for your replies (advice)

I live in Phoenix and it's hot here. I have an 06 C6 and it always amazes me how cold it blows all the time. Best A/C in the world. I think you may have a problem. Get it to the dealer before the warranty expires.

Well before you go and service
Look @ the condensor (ac radiator) under the car to see if it is clogged with bugs-debris paper ect the mouth of the vet loves road crap
if the fins are clogged just blow with a air gun then rinse with a garden hose
this is what it sounds like to me being it is cold while your moving and forcing air through and @ idle the fins are clogged and fans dont move enough air
try it iwont cost you a dime just some water on the nose

slick

Service Information 2006 Chevrolet Corvette | Corvette (VIN Y) Service Manual | Document ID: 1680700

#PIC3598: Poor A/C Performance in Elevated Ambient Conditions - keyword charge cool HVAC leak temperature - (Jul 1, 2005)

Subject: Poor A/C Performance In Elevated Ambient Conditions

Models: 2004-2005 Cadillac XLR

2005-2006 Chevrolet Corvette

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
Customers may bring in their vehicle with complaints of the air conditioning suddenly blowing hot and moist air on occasion. They may also say that the blower speed is going up and down at the same time. This can happen whether the syst em is in automatic or manual modes. It is likely that the vehicle will pass the standard service manual A/C diagnosis, and the dealership unfortunately has to tell the customer that there is no trouble found.

The system is experiencing a high head pressure situation. The engine control module will disengage the compressor clutch at pressures above 300 kPa (435 psi) for safety. Any time the compressor is off, the HVAC control head will return the system to outside air from recirculation mode to reduce interior cabin noise, unless the customer has manually selected recirculation mode. The sound level difference is often mistaken for a change in blower speed.

This condition is most likely seen on a hot engine re-start such as after a gas station stop, prolonged low speed driving, or vehicle idling at an elevated ambient condition. The initial spike in head pressure may be enough to disengage the compressor clutch. If the vehicle has any forward motion, the system will r ecover within seconds. If the vehicle is stationary or in a significant tail wind, the system can take minutes to recover after a disengagement.

Recommendation/Instructions:
After verifying that the vehicle's refrigerant pressure sensor is working properly, the solution is to reduce the refrigerant charge level from 0.64 kg (1.4 lbs.) to a new charge of 0.50 kg (1.10 lbs). Bowling Green Assembly Plant has begun to charge all of its vehicles to 0.50 kg (1.10 lbs). Recent vehicle testing has confirmed the effectiveness of this solution. The air conditioning cooling capacity is not affected. New charge labels will be available at a later date.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform thes e technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
