Default Timing Chain Info

I thought I would pass this information along to all you DIYers (both of you) LOL! Anyways I have a Rollmaster timing chain in my car, JP performace was on the gears, and after all the mess about chains I decided to take a look at it. Spin and I bought C5R chains from Katech which are made in Germany by IWIS Ketten, the chains them selves say JWIS on them. Spin had good luck with this on Craigsters car. At first glance I did not see much difference. Before I took off the Rollmaster I checked for play. I was able to move the crank about a half inch either way without the cam moving. This chain has nearly 0 movement. Its very tight. So, the pain in the **** was actually worth the trouble. The Rollmaster was way tigher than stock, the Katech is way tighter than this one. They come pre-stretched.

The old chain was marked "Roltron". It came from Texas Speed and we think it is a Rollmaster.

He's downstairs eating all my hotdogs.

This chain is stout Cam. If Chuck doesn't want to screw with that double mess tell him to call Katech and get this chain. Its hella tough. I'm running over 700rwhp through it.

Good dawgs with them whole grain buns. Potato salad was good too for mountian food. I liked the blue rasberry desert and the banna split was overkill.

The chain.....not much play so it looks to restore cam timing for the 3 degrees lost to a stock slop chain. Less play= less whip-lashing when going from accel to decel.

Did you happen to check for play when the rollmaster was new? Just curious as to what the stretch rate is for the chains from new to XXXX amount of miles and with xxx/xxx amount of hp/tq. I'm sure Katech would be the ones to ask as they would inspect the chain during tear downs, but wont the stronger chain start to stretch at some point too?

The old chain was pretty loose when new. Back in the day when I was new to LSX motors and I put it in I was pretty worried that it was so loose. I drove over to ECS and asked Doug to show me a motor with a stock chain to compare. It was pretty loose as well. He said they were pretty sloppy.

These are supposed to be pre-stretched. I don't know if that means they don't stretch at all or just stretch a little. Even if it stretched a ton it would still be tighter than the one that was in there.

Before I took off the Rollmaster I checked for play. I was able to move the crank about a half inch either way without the cam moving. This chain has nearly 0 movement. Its very tight.

A half inch either way, is that a good thing or am I missing something ??

No, you are not missing anything, you want as little play as possible, no play is ideal.
