Default Vortex Rammer CAI

I'm thinking of installing a Vortex Rammer CAI from Breathless Performance Products. I'd like to hear from anyone who has experience with this CAI and what your opinions are regarding the install and the performance results.

This is the CAI I went with after many hours of researching and I have no regrets whatsoever.

Here is a link to my write-up:

Great product, great performance, you will definitely feel the difference, of course not on a dyno.

Hey John, I just realized you're in San Diego. If it's important to your decision to see one installed, I'm just up the road.

Thanks for the offer. I don't think I need to see any more than I have seen from the pictures on the posts above, as well as what is on the Breathless Performance web site. I have been also looking at the Vararam and Honker, but the Vortex caught my eye because of its design and the quality that appears to be very high. I have one question: To remove the filter for cleaning, can it be reached from under the car or does one have to disassemble the whole unit and remove the air box? Also, is it oiled like a K&N filter?

Thanks to everyone above that provided me with information; it was most helpful and has pretty well convinced me that this is the right CAI for me.

The filter is oiled like a K&N. I only have 2k on this set-up and have many miles left before I clean the filter. But from the looks of it, the filter can be removed from the bottom and no need to remove the box.

It looks like the filter could come off from under the car. Another question: The installation instructions indicate an option of removing the screen in the intake to the MAI. Did any of you do this when installing your Vortex?

I installed the Air Rammer into my 05 as one of the first mods I performed. I also removed the screen mesh. So far without incident. Be careful when driving through hard rains and puddled water. The only thing I would change in the Air rammer is the choice of filter used. I notice when I remove the filter to clean it. There is a fairly large radius area of somewhat clean filter. Meaning that the filter is not being used to its potential. Or the actual usable area of the filter is much smaller than the size of the filter itself. Don`t get me wrong I like my air Rammer. and I love the performance it gives. I just feel they could have used a better filter application(without the concave portion).

Did anyone else take off the MAF sensor intake screen when installing your Vortex CAI?

Good observation! Now I will add rotating the air filter when I change the oil.

I had it on my c5 and liked it. If drag racing is your thing its worth it, so long is you have exhaust system to compliment the vortex, which i did. I changed to headers and then the 2 complimented each other and really noticed tremondous response.

Rotating the filter won`t help. The problem is the filter itself. If you measure from the back (bottom) to where the concave portion of the filter ends. This is the only area(3 maybe 4 inches) that gets dirty. From the concave portion to the top, the filter remains fairly clean. Meaning that portion isn`t getting any real airflow. what I refer to as WAU (wasted area of use).

I've taken mine off from above (painted the cover on top of the radiator) and it's no big deal. Looks like you'd have no hand or tool space working from underneath - you'd be trapped by the confines of the airbox.
