Default New setup - 07 A6

Well, I decided to pull the trigger on a cam and headers for my C6 A6. After some discussions with Patrick Guerra (Patrick G on LS1tech), Ponchorello, and Mike at Icon Autosports I decided on a mild cam that would work with my factory stall. Patrick spec'd the cam for N/A performance as well as on the spray. The specs are 220/226 .605"/.600" 114LSA +2.

As far as the headers, I went with Kook 1-7/8" w/offroad X-pipe.

The cam required some upgraded springs and pushrods so I purchased PAC 1518 Beehive springs and Comp Cam 7.425" pushrods. After reading Spin's posts on timing chains breaking, I decided I would go ahead and put a Katech C5R timing chain to work. Since the factory pulley was off, I had Steve install a Powerbond UD pulley.

Mike and Steve, at Icon, performed all the work and lets just say their professionalism was top notch. They are definitely a class act.

Steve strapped the car to their dyno, currently still at MTI, and the car turned the rollers to 400.46whp and 383.70 ft/lbs of torque. Just a side note, the ambient temps were around 98-100 degrees.

Here is a vid of the car at idle:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOGyWR1G1A4

Here is the dyno chart:

With my new found power, I decided it was time to hit the track. Although we are far from having good air here in Houston, I wanted to see what she would do.

This is an all motor run:

60' - 1.924
330 - 5.194
1/8 - 7.817
MPH - 94.59
1000 - 10.059
1/4 - 11.936
MPH - 120.51

Ponch was at the track and he kept tempting me to make a nitrous pass, but I was a bit uncomfortable with my tune after the cam install. The pressure finally built up and I bumped the fuel on my tune and borrowed his freshly filled bottle.

Here was my first and last pass (I got kicked off the track)

60' - 1.881
330 - 4.985
1/8 - 7.474
MPH - 99.82
1000 - 9.588
1/4 - 11.360
MPH - 126.89

My A/F was way off and I'm confident with good air and bumping the shot to 125 (currently 100), I will see some 10 second passes.

Here are a couple of shots of the car:

Another big thanks to Ponch, Mike and Steve at Icon Motorsports, Young at Byunspeed, and Patrick G!!

Cant go wrong with that setup. Its not over the top yet enough to lay down some a$$ whipp'ns. But wait...you still have the dope tucked in there.

Up that shot to 125 and you're solid into the 10's.

Clean pics as well...

Nice ETs Jason. It's a shame you want to keep running the stock torque converter. A Yank SS 3200 would drop those 60' times into the 1.7s, maybe even into the 1.6s.

Very nice. That cam should also work pretty well if you decide to install the L92 heads and intake.

Do you have an A6 tune for the trans? What are your other mods? Ported TB? CAI?

Car is turning into something of a beast Jason

120mph is no joke.

You realize that when someone gets a tune their transmission is tuned as well...yeah?

Marketing an "A6" tune is just marketing hype.

Go with the Yank SS 3600! I've got one in my car and the drivability is great and my 60ft times (even with well-worn MT drag radials) are insane.

Didn't you have some issues getting it to run right? The only reason I'd go with the Vigilante is because I've never seen or heard any negative comments about it.

Nope, it worked great right out of the box for me with no tuning changes whatsoever. I think you might be thinking of GETUSUMM who had all kinds of problems getting his to work properly but I think the problem was with his tune.

I made a bunch of videos in case you were curious as to what the drivability of it was like:

2.56

I never did a baseline dyno run, but I did do one with the Vararam only and I was around 348whp.
