I am getting a noise when I race my engine with the air condition on. Currently at dealer who says that the compressor is gone. However, the car cools just fine. Any thoughts.
You're still getting cold air with a bad compressor? Sound a bit fishy to me. Is the vehicle still under warranty? If not, maybe you're being told a story so the dealer can sell a part.
You will hear some noise when the electric cooling fan kicks in to help control temperature. Not sure that's what you're talking about but thought I mention it. Good luck.
If the bearings in the compressor are going bad but still spinning, then you will get cool air but it will make that noise. It makes sense as a diagnosis. Think of it like a bad wheel bearing, as it goes bad, it makes grinding noises, but you can still drive on it just fine......until it fails....same with the compressor.
Just had my compressor replaced under warranty. Bearing was going bad. It did not affect the performance of the AC system. The noise would come and go but was very noticable at 1800 to 2200 RPM, especially when the ambient temperature was high and the engine was hot.
The is a TSB out on this issue. I suggest getting it replaced under warranty. It took the dealer 4 hours to do mine. Works perfectly now.

more then likely the ac clutch coil is shot....most tech's dont replace just the clutch anymore. If your handy take the belt off and spin the clutch by hand it should spin freely with no noise. also when the bearings go out in the clutch coil it usually leaves a black residue all around the compressor,,,like brake dust. good luck.
