I have been trying for 4 hours to release my air bag on my 07 vert. I have tried flat screwdrivers, phillips, a rod the same size as the hole, no luck. How far in is this release wire ? Is it straidht in or on a angle ? How hard do you have to push ? I feel like I'm hitting wires and don't want to pusn to hard.

I don't know why, but with the steering wheel straight, turn the wheel to the right so that the hole is at the top. Then insert the tool of your choice and it will pop free. A gentle tug will release the bottom.

HELP
I used a 3mm hex key (allen) wrench...the little "L" shaped ones. The flat, squared-off end of the wrench makes it easier to catch and 'push' the release rod.
Steering wheel pointing straight ahead.
Holding the wrench level, insert the long end of the hex key wrench in the hole about 1-2 inches, angled so that the long end is pointing toward the back of the car *just a little*. Usually takes me about 30 seconds of trying to get it to pop.

Here is a pic of the 2006 steering wheel hub once the airbag has been removed.
The green arrows show the release rods for the airbag, and also show which direction they have to be pushed to release the airbag. Hope it helps!
Other semi-helpful notes:
*Note the proximity of the red Horn wires on each side... its easy for your tool to catch on these and fool you into thinking you are pushing on the release rod! Just be aware that they are there.
*Just to replace the spoke covers, its not necessary to disconnect the airbag wiring -- just carefully rest it on the bottom of the wheel while you remove the T15 screws holding the spoke covers on.
*You dont have to push the rods very far to release the bag... maybe 1/8" or so.
*Dont forget to disconnect the positive battery cable 15 minutes before doing this procedure!
