I have an 05 Automatic 4 speed (not the 6A) if I pit it in "2" it will start off in 2nd gear... I have 2 races left and on the run flats it's spinning, I don't care if it runs 13.8 or 14.00 ...Can I put it in 2nd to leave the line (to prevent wheel spin) then shift to 3rd at app 4000-5000 rpm, & the car will shift itself to 3rd when it wants to...
I know it will be lazy off the line, but at least it wont spin, and its a Bracket race, I'd just make to time shots to see what its running, and I "Think" it should be more consistent slower but consistant...
Even if you put it in 2.. an automatic is not like a manual transmission. It will still start off in 1st from a dead stop then switch to 2nd and not go past 2nd gear while still remaining in "2". I do not believe there is a way to start off in 2nd gear in an automatic
not true, atleast on the c5 with the a4 it would hold 2nd gear from a stop
Yes you are correct, I have already tried it.. from a "Dead Stop" if I put it in 2 it will start in 2nd gear, then at app 4000-5000rpm I shift to 3rd but the car will stay in 2nd until app 6200 and shift itself to 3rd...
What I'm interested is it extremely hard on the trans... I only plan on doing it for 1 race day.. maybe total of 5-6 runs down the track...

You are correct, same thing applied to the LS1 F-bodies with the automatic, it's called the '2nd gear start feature' and was put there to help out in snowy/icey conditions.
Will it work? I believe it could.

I don't see how it would be, while the feature is put in place for use in slow speed, light throttle situations, that still doesn't mean that they didn't build it with the assumption that some rogue/hooligan drivers will still beat on the car from a stop with the lever in 2nd gear. There are usually safeguards built into these things.
