also known as UHC's...well not really. Anyway, I have crickets, and it's variable with rpms. Not constent like a whine, just crickets like sounding. I can't quite figure out where it is coming from but if I where to put a buck on, it's by the alternator.
My Q: any idea how I can check if it is the alternator? I've done a couple search and saw the 05 had "UHC's" due to the alternator...but it charges just fine...I also turned it by hand and it feals fine...any other things I can check (I'm going to take the belt off again and whipe it down...my 06 goat did the same sound 3 weeks ago and that was the reason)
Same as mine - but once it warmed up it was ok.. took the belt off and ran the engine for a few mins, and no problem.... in other words, ran the engine without the alt spinning to find out what it was.... a bad bearing...
^ yeah I was thinking of doing that, I didn't (yet) because I was leary of the ECM freaking out. Also, if it was another pulley there's no way to really eliminate one at the time. I think I might rig something up with my drill to spin the alternator to see if it makes the sounds...I hope it's just the belt...it didn't do that at all the whole day and half they let me "test drive it". Only did it 20 miles down the road after the dealer did the oil change and detailed it...I'm thinking some greasy fingers got on the belt or pulley(s) and is creating this UHC issue ...if not, 180+ for an alternator...

Years ago I learned a trick that helps determine if you've got a noisy belt:
With the car running, take a glass (or bottle) of water and pour a very small quantity directly on the belt. If you hear the noise subside and then return a few seconds later after the water dries out then it's your belt that's the source of the noise.
^ I'll have to try that. I took the belt off last night and cleaned it (just used dry paper towel), and my cricket was gone. Drove out to dinner and back, about 40 miles, and no crickets, I was thrilled, then this morning it's back...

It's definitely your belt as once they get to a certain point that noise will never go away.
