The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Mustang Dyno's read low. (actual RWHP is higher than these show)
Dynapack Dyno's read actual
Dynojet Dyno's read high (actual RWHP is lower than these show)
This is just my opinion but if I had the time I would like to take my car to all three and prove the above. The OP is putting down 410 stock? I have CAI. LT's 160 T-Stat and Dyno tune on my LS3 and I got 412 HP on a dynapack dyno. I have seen others say they ran 425 HP with the same exact additions that I have. The OP would probably show 435 HP with these additions on the same dyno.
I just can't believe the "official" advertised numbers are off by that much so that is why I concluded the above. The only other thing I can come up with is that tuners are somehow manipulating the dyno numbers to suit their own needs. I'd like to believe that tuners are honest so again, I have to conclude the above. I guess the calibrations can be off on some dynos and maybe that explains the wide range of numbers we are seeing.
Some here will say "Take it to the track to see how fast it is" while I agree in theory, every driver is different and some may be better than others at drag racing. The dyno should take the driver out of the picture and focus solely on what the car can do but with these wild number swings it does not seem to be the case.
(Flame suite on... be gentle and remember it is just my opinion
)
Nice # see what it runs at the track...
I'm in 100% agreement
.. I just sold my 96... I bought it new, and NEVER had the heads off... with only the following mods it ran 12.28 @ 110 mph, & on a different track it ran 112 mph...Mods were 1.6 RR from GM... Breathless Intake, Muffler eliminators, 3200 Vigilante Converter, 3.73 Dana 44, & lightweight Weld Pro Star Wheels... it had stock heads, cam, and STOCK Exhaust manifolds running through the cats..
The trick is NOT only HP but the "Overall Setup" a car has to have the correct combination of parts to run good #...
I never had that car on a Dyno... My 05 LS2 has run 12.52 on run flats leaving from an idle.. I'm having "BIG" problems with the Torque Management system taking timing out and slowing it down..
I plan on a 3200-3500 Converter over the winter, and hope to be running right around 12.00 without adding headers or exhaust.. I also don't want to go to skinnie front tires as its a very nice car to take on trips, & I'm getting 26-27 MPG on the highway
It has 3.15s now but if I have to I'll go to 3.42 (Prefer not to go to 3.73) as its 100+ miles one way to the closest track)
I've raced in the Corvette Challenge at Englishtown since it started in 1998 or 99 and have always finished in the top 10 with over 100 points racers every year.. My eventual goal is NOT 11.00 but any # around 12.00 and Consistent is # 1.... my 96 would run within .02 - .03 every run, I'm sorry I sold it before this season ended this Nov. however I hot a helluva price and its water under the bridge...
I sure as hell managed to take this "off topic" sorry.... But my point is Dyno # do not mean squat if your are bracket racing, CONSISTENCY is what counts!! IMHO a Dyno is a good tool to see how much of an improvement a mod has made, make a run before & after...
The Real Test is at the Track!!
