Excellent choice on both. I'm not sure how much the install should cost (since I did both on my own) but it shouldn't be that much more than if you were just doing the converter. You might already know this, but the differential needs to be removed to get to the transmission so there really isn't any reason for them to be charging you for two separate jobs.
You should see a huge difference if you ever decide to race the car. I haven't posted my timeslip yet, but I ran my best time ever of 11.014 earlier today. Since I added the converter back in July I've now seen an increase of .461 seconds in the quarter mile and like you noticed with your friend's car, it is still very streetable.

Your car just gets quicker and quicker.
I'm still on the fence with mine, but I do need a tune badly.
I'll call you today.

Christopher,
Will 3.42 or 3.73 gears fit into the 2.56 housing?

I'm not 100% sure about the 3.73 gears, but with the 3.15 and 3.42's that I've had in my car, both still had the factory 2.56 sticker on them so yes, they'll fit.
