I have an 08 and have noticed the radiator fan having bad bearings as it slows down (squeak, squeak, squeak), verified by spinning with my hand to replicate the squeak... it was on my list to have replaced, but yesterday I must have gotten a leaf or something stuck in it because it now makes a card in the spokes noise when it's spinning
question is, what procedure is used to remove it because i don't want the dealer to mess anything else up in the process... and am i missing some ducting or something? the fan's pretty well exposed
Ok I'll see if I can help you with this
1. remove the radiator support.
2. disconnect the engine wiring harness from the cooling fan shroud.
3. disconnect the surge tank outlet hose from the retaining clips on the cooling fan shroud and position aside.
4. raise and support the vehicle.
5. remove the stabilizer shaft.
6 disconnect the cooling fan electrical connector.
7. vehicles equipped with transmission fluid cooler, disconnect the lower transmission oil cooler line from radiator.
8. vehicles equipped with an engine oil cooler, disconnect the upper and lower engine oil cooler pipes.
9. remove the cooling fan shroud retaining bolts.
10 remove the cooling fan and shroud.
that is straight from the manual. hope that helps.
I don't think I would worry about them doing this properly, any gm mechanic can do it much better without you looking over their shoulder...
well when i went there to demonstrate the bearing problem the tech asked "how do you know which fan it is?" i said well, since there's only 1 fan, it was easy to deduct
