the intake side is where you have to be careful on this motor
you need .080 PVC intake, .100 PVC exhaust.

i would say no more than low 230s inake, low to mid 240s exhaust
rule of thumb: ALWAY MEASURE, MEASURE, MEASURE PVC !!!

lift doesnt matter

while were talking about cams for an ls3, is there a plug and play cam you can stick in this engine to give it a little more power and sound without touching anything else? i see these "cam only" posts, but they also include rollers, different springs, a tune, etc.

When people say "cam only", they're referring to the cam being the "only" interior engine modification. Of course, to properly install and account for a larger cam, its STRONGLY recommended that you upgrade the valvetrain accordingly. The 'rods, seats, springs, retainers, etc. are considered one and the same with the cam. Its part of a complete swap.

"Cam only" is something heard in regards to the first real round into non-bolt-on mods after the usual bolt-ons have been completed, i.e. intake/ehxuast/tune. All of which are necessary to properly facilitate a cam-swap. You could swap cams without upgrading the intake and exhaust tracks, but it would be pointless. The cam is there to push more air through the engine. You'd be choking it by not allowing it to breath, negating your cam purchase.

If someone told you they were remodling their house, and the first round was "bathroom only", you wouldnt assume they simply remodled just the basic structure that forms the bathroom. It would mean a new shower, sink, cabinets, floor tiles, possibly toilet/plumbing, lighting, etc. A "bathroom only" remodel. Its a pacakage deal.

If that helps.

well said slick... it makes sense to me, but i'm wondering if there is such a cam out there, like the "gm hot cam" which some say has been out for ever and is not well suited for the LS3, yet it's an option for the LS3 giving it 480hp. what else do they change when they add this cam from the factory? the intake remains the same. I'm wondering if it's worth it to have GM swap cams so it stays under warranty.

off the topic, but when u buy a cam for the ls3, what all do u need besides the obvious? i know u need springs and pushrods, but i see people changing oil pumps and timing chain.
