Default Texas Mile Report

Since I bought my C6 I have been itching to run the Texas Mile, but the March 08 one was too tight after the NCM trip. So, I made the pilgrimage this weekend with a buddy who just took delivery of a 08 Z06 and another buddy with his modified Shelby GT 500.

The weather was nice and the event was outstanding. The event takes place at an abandoned (or rarely used) airstrip outside of Goliad Texas. You are not timed, but you receive a slip after each run with your one mile trap speed. Lots of nice cars and many bikes. Lots of eye candy for car geeks like myself. Everyone is friendly and is very approachable.

My car is a 08 C6 M6 with a cam, exhaust and gears. It is a bolt-on car and the heads have never been off. On the first run my tailpipe separated from the X-pipe (I didn’t know at the time why the exhaust note changed), so I backed out and didn’t go past second or third gear. This is a bummer, because it was early and still cool, so it likely would have been my best run of the day. The second run was at noon and I ran 174.89MPH. The third run was at 2pm and it was getting pretty warm (~85 degrees), but I clicked off a 175.68MPH. My goal was to break 170, so I was happy with the results.

I want to extend my appreciation to the folks at the LG trailer. After my tailpipe separated they helped me out with some tools and a hand to get it all back together and get me back in the event. I can’t thank these guys enough. Also, a big thanks to Stephen & Jason at England Green. They are responsible for my cars set-up. Stephen & Jason did the wrenching and then Stephen tuned the car all last August after they merged. The Whiplash cam, 3:90 gears and tune obviously worked out well. I have to gloat a bit on this. I turned 175MPH in the mile on pump gas. Then I turned the AC on and averaged 31.1 MPG on the three hour drive home running around 85MPH. Muchas gracias EG & LG

I cant wait to do it again next March.

Stephen is a great guy, and really knows his C5's and C6's. It was a great loss for Florida when he decided to put on boots and a hat and become a Cowboy .

100% stock Z51 fair down to the runcraps. The car was very nice at speed. If I had more room I could have kept going. I never felt the car float, drift or feel not stable. Once I was in 5th, I just put both hands on the wheel and focused on the road in front of me. It was really quite easy. It would be nice if there was a closed course with a 3 mile streach where you could go all out for 2 miles and have a full mile to shut down. The Texas mile is 1.5 miles long, so you really have to get on the binders to slow down. I think with a 2 mile streach I would be knocking on 200MPH .

It was really nice meeting you man. I have to say I think me and my friends were most impressed with your car! Those are some strong numbers! I was the guy with the red procharged c6 widebody conversion.

Very impressive setup! You really got my buddy wanting to get into an LS3 setup.

Congrats again

Larry - Many thanks. It was great meeting you and your buddy too. We all had a blast and can't wait to do it again in the spring. Honestly it felt easy to hit 175. I think with a little more practice and cooler temps I could get the car close to the 180 mark in its current form, but that's just bench racing. It is good to see so many nice cars and so many friendly folks at such an event. I am thinking on what to do to hit the 190 or 200 mark now. Nitrous, blower….. Don’t know, but I am plotting and I know the answer will **** the wife off .

Whats it cost to participate in this event and how far is LG Motorsports from the airstrip?

If I make the drive from GA to TX I would love to visit the LG guys and swap out my current header system for some LG Pros.

I was with the LG guy's all weekend. They helped out numerous other drivers as well. They welded up a turbo for a ricer amoung all lot other things and this was in the middle of them getting their AWSOME VETTE ready to run. FIRST CLASS OPERATION. They did all this at no charge as well. They never turned any request for help away.
